Covariant methods of studying the nonlocal structure of an effective action

Description

The asymptotic expansion of the heat kernel is calculated up to terms cubic in the rapidly varying background fields, and its summation is carried out. Manifestly covariant nonlocal expressions are derived for the heat kernel which is a generalized ζ function and for the one-loop effective action
