Mechanisms of the accumulation of high-Z impurities in tokamaks

  • 1. Inst. fur Plasmaphysik, Forschungszentrum Juelich GmbH, Juelich (Germany)

Description

An instability in the plasma core in tokamaks caused by the temperature dependence of neo-classical flow of impurities in Pfirsch-Schlueter regime leading to accumulation of high-Z impurities is discussed. The effect of light impurities on the instability threshold is considered. A comparison with experiments on the tokamak TEXTOR-94 is presented. Conditions for instability development in a reactor are analyzed. (author)
