Figure and dynamic parameters of synchronously orbiting satellites in the solar system
Description
The second zonal and the second sectorial Stokes parameters of synchronously orbiting satellites Phobos, Deimos, Amalthea, Io and Mimas were investigated in connection with their tidal and rotational deformations. It was demonstrated that the body-yield-to-centrifugal deformations and the body-yield-to-tidal deformations during the whole history of the rotational/orbital evolution were mostly responsible for the actual figures of the synchronously orbiting satellites. This supports the hypothesis that synchronously orbiting satellites are formed out of primordial matter by accretion in orbits and that they are not captured bodies. (author). 5 tabs., 4 refs
