Description
Two important technological aspects of uranium are dealt with in this supplement volume A 4: 1. Fuel element behaviour during reactor operation and 2. reprocessing of irradiated nuclear fuels for recovery of non-depleted materials and for the separation of the fission products and the trans-uranium elements. Concerning the first topic, a description of the radiation effects of uranium-dioxide and uranium/plutonium mixed oxide - as well as of carbide - and nitride fuel when used in the various reactor types is given. In the field of reprocessing, fuels of the uranium-thorium cycle and fuels with highly enriched uranium are taken into account whereas the reprocessing of uranium/plutonium - mixed oxide fuel has been also dealt with in the trans-uranium series of the Gmelin volumes. Abstract (German)
Zwei wichtige technologische Aspekte des Urans werden in diesem Ergaenzungsband A 4 behandelt: 1. Das Verhalten der Brennelemente waehrend des Reaktorbetriebs und 2. die Wiederaufarbeitung bestrahlter Brennelemente zur Rueckgewinnung des nichtgespaltenen Materials und zur Abtrennung der Spaltprodukte und der Transurane. Zur erstgenannten Thematik werden die Bestrahlungseffekte von Uran-dioxid- und u/Pu-Mischoxid- sowie Carbid- und Nitrid-Brennstoff bei ihrer Verwendung in den verschiedenen Reaktortypen beschrieben. Bei der Wiederaufarbeitung werden Brennstoffe des Uran-Thorium-Zyklus und solche mit hochangereichertem Uran beruecksichtigt, waehrend die Wiederaufarbeitung von Urandioxid- und Uran/Plutonium-Mischoxidbrennstoff in der Transuran-Serie der Gmelin-Baende mithandelt wurde.
