Synthesis and in vivo studies of a carboranyl porphyrin
- 1. Brookhaven National Lab., Upton, NY (USA). Medical Dept.
- 2. Bremen Univ. (Germany, F.R.). Fachbereich 2 - Studiengang Chemie
Description
The authors have devised a simple route to synthesize a natural porphyrin derivative containing two carborane cages. This molecule is both water soluble and non-toxic and accumulates well in tumor tissue with almost complete clearance in the blood in 4 to 6 days. These are extremely encouraging results and the authors plan to fine tune the porphyrin structure for optimum drug delivery. (orig./MG)
