Description
Many astrophysical nuclear processes - such as r-process - involve neutron capture reactions on short lifetime nuclei. The direct measurement is not available yet, since the short lifetime does not allow forming a target of these nuclei. There are other possibilities to have the information on the cross sections. One of these is the ANC method, and another experimental possibility is the Coulomb-breakup measurement, where the inverse reaction can be investigated. This inverse method was applied already in several experiments. The results were compared with theoretical estimations and generally good agreements can be found. However there was no experimental investigations of the validity of the assumptions. It is known that the excited states of the resulting nucleus of the neutron capture plays important role and the contribution of the capture to the excited should be theoretically put into the account, since in the case of the inverse reaction the beam particles are in the ground state. There can be more questionable moments in the analysis of these experiments. The contribution of the nuclear breakup is always taken into the account, but the way to do this was rarely experimentally checked. The talk will overview the problems of the inverse method for a couple given cases and will give preliminary results of an experiment in which one of the aims was to check the validity of the inverse method for 3 different bombarding energy of 8Li.
