A measurement of the fission cross-section of 241Pu relative to 235U

  • 1. Institut fuer Angewandte Kernphysik, Kernforschungszentrum Karlsruhe (Germany)

Description

The fission cross-section ratio 241Pu : 235U has been measured as a function of neutron energy between 5 keV and 1 MeV by means of a pulsed 3-MeV Van-de-Graaff accelerator. The neutron energy was determined by time-of-flight technique. Fission events were detected in two identical argon-filled gas scintillation chambers in 4π - geometry. The accuracy of the cross-section ratios is estimated to be between 2.5 and 4%. (author)
