LLL's Quality Assurance Program and the design of specific systems: Tritium Handling Facility
Description
Lawrence Livermore Laboratory operates a Tritium Handling Facility for several programs. Besides the tritium work for the weapons program, basic research is conducted on all phases of tritium. Additional work is being conducted for the laser fusion program and the controlled thermonuclear program. The Quality Assurance Program for the tritium facility and how it is being implemented on specific tritium handling systems are described. The program is intended to prevent or mitigate the consequences of accidents by rigidly controlling the design, fabrication, procurement, construction and operation of safety-related critical structures, systems, and components of such facilities.
