Description

Using monochromatized synchrotron radiation in the range 24-30 eV, angle-resolved photoemission spectra from a clean Be(0001) crystal face was recorded. A surface state located in a band gap around GAMMA with an initial state energy of - 2.8 eV in normal emission was found. For ksub(parallel to) along the GAMMA-barM-bar line the surface state disperses upwards and passes Esub(F) at about 55% of the distance to the surface Brillouin zone boundary. (author)
