Application of fractional uptake method to 99mTc-ECD SPECT for quantification of brain perfusion using cardiac output index

Description

Fractional uptake (FU) method, which was originally designed for 123I-IMP (123I-N-isopropyl-p-iodoamphetamine) SPECT, was modified and applied for measuring cerebral blood flow (CBF) using 99mTc-ECD (99mTc-ethyl-cysteinate dimer) SPECT. FU method uses the value of cardiac output (CO) calculating from the body surface area of patients. However this CO is not precise enough to reflect real CBF. Using 99mTc-ECD we calculated cardiac output index (COI) according to the regression line of CO measured with 99mTc-RBC (99mTc-Red Blood Cell) and 131I-HSA (131I-Human Serum Albumin) in 10 patients. The present studies revealed that the mean CBF values calculated by this method were larger than those measured by other previously reported methods. (author)
