Availability of nuclear power plants in the world in 1982

The 1982 survey of the availability of nuclear power plants worldwide, which includes 206 plants with an aggregate 145,000 MWe (except CMEA countries), indicates an average capacity utilization of the nuclear power plants of 61%. This is a slight increase over the 60% of the previous year. Pressurized water reactors attained 63% (as against 64% in the previous year), boiling water reactors 62% (as against 59% in the previous year). The list of nuclear power plants is topped by one pressurized water and one heavy water reactor, each with 97%, followed by two boiling water reactors and one pressurized water reactor. The survey also shows the geographic distribution of nuclear power plants and a breakdown of plants by unit size and age. The utilization of time averaged 70% in 1982, which is 2% more than in 1981.
