The JANNuS platform irradiates materials with fluxes of charged particles. Its main applications are in nanoscience and the development of nuclear materials. It brings together researchers around state-of-the-art equipment in two experimental facilities: one in Orsay at the Centre of nuclear and mass spectroscopy, a joint CNRS and Paris-Sud Univ. research unit; the other at the CEA Saclay center, in the Nuclear Materials Department. The JANNuS platform is also an educational tool for training young scientists in the operation and application of accelerators, the physics of ion/matter interactions and materials science. Decided on in 2004, the JANNuS project has been in normal operation since 2011, following the installation of the latest equipment in 2009 and an initial phase of commissioning in 2009. The JANNuS platform provides CEA, CNRS and Paris-Sud Univ. with a facility that is unrivalled in Europe
