A hypothesis for the radiolysis of liquid water

Description
Current models for the radiolysis of liquid water are discussed and it is stated that they are based on too simplified a view on reactions involving radiolytic intermediates. The assumption that the initial yields of products are independent of the radiation quality is also questioned. A hypothesis for the radiolysis of liquid water consistent with the available data is presented under seven sections which describe the initial decomposition of the excited water aggregates forming isolated solvated electrons, OH, H3O+ and H2O2 and spurs containing different complexes of these, followed by various processes and reactions which account for the situation some 10-7 sec after the energy deposition.
