Method of processing ion exchange resin wastes

Description

Purpose: To reduce the temperature for burning procession of ion exchange resin wastes. Method: Ion exchange resin wastes are powderized to less than 100 μm particle size and dried. Iron oxide or iron powder with average particle size of less than 10 μm i s admixed by more than 10% by weight to the powder and then subjected to burning treatment. In this process, since the iron oxide acts catalytically for the combustion of the resin (oxidizing reaction) to increase the reaction rate, burning can be carried out at a lower temperature with the increased rate. Accordingly, the energy for maintaining the temperature of the burning furnace can be economized and the life of the furnace wall can be extended. (Sekiya, K.)
