Description

Non-availability of coarse aggregate affects the progress of the construction industry. This is the peak time to find alternate materials for the concrete construction. In this study, the potential of using brick chips as coarse aggregate is studied. The mechanical properties of concrete such as compressive and tensile strength, modulus of rupture and modulus of elasticity were determined. The variable of the study was coarse aggregate replacement ratio by volume. The virgin crushed stone aggregate was used as coarse aggregate in control mix. The coarse aggregate replacement ratio such as 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100 was used. The test results indicated that 25% of the virgin aggregate in concrete can be replaced without any modification in the mix design procedure. (paper)
