The influence of ultrasound on the formation of bone callus in rabitt tibia performations

On the influence of ultrasound simulation on the formation of bone callus in tibia perforations in the rabbit the influence of ultrasound stimulation in an experimental bone defect was studied in nine rabbits. A cortical defect was made in both tibiae. The left tibia was stimulated by ultrasound and the right side was used as control. The effect of stimulation was evaluated by means of radiographic, histological and morphometric techniques 5. 10 and 15 days after surgery. The results suggest that the ultrasound stimulation favorably influences the spped of callus formation. (author)

Abstract (Portuguese)

Estudou-se, experimentalmente, em coelhos, a influencia da aplicacao do ultra-som sobre o desenvolvimento do calo osseo. Ambas as tibias foram perfuradas, sendo o lado eaquerdo estimulado diariamente com o ultra-som. O lado direito serviu como controle. Os animais foram radiogrados e submetidos a analise morfometrica e a avaliacao histologica, aos 5, 10 e 15 dias apos a cirurgia. Encontrou-se, de maneira geral, que no lado tratado houve aceleracao dos processos normais de reparacao ossea. (autor)
