Future directions for high-spin studies

Description

The author considers some future direction for experimental high-spin studies, concentrating mainly on the region above I approx. 30 h, where the γ-ray spectra are currently unresolvble. The 4π NaI balls offer a means to exploit the temperature effects recently shown to exist in such spectra. Large arrays of Compton-suppressed Ge detectors, on the other hand, lead to higher effective resolutions as it becomes possible to study triple and quadruple coincident events. A detector system that is currently being built in Berkeley that combines both approaches, is described briefly
