Description

Possibilities for improving principal ion-optical parameters of a commercial RF ion source are described. This type of source is traditionally used with a nuclear microprobe (MP). It is suggested to utilize hydro-dynamic magnetic trap ('mirror' type) for the multi component (H+-e-H2+) plasma containment and fast magneto sonic wave (or, simply, fast wave) absorption in the plasma for settling special distribution of the operating ions (OI) in the modified RF source. The code EFDOI v.2 has been developed to solve a non-stationary 2D (in the velocity space) kinetic equation and used to determine the optimized function distribution of the OI. The distribution is settled in the trap under the following processes: cyclotron absorption of the fast wave at slow mode regime, Coulomb's collisions of the OI with background plasma, birth and death of the ions. The optimized regime and parameters for the modified RF ion source are determined as the results of the calculations
