Remedial technology selection for hydrocarbon contaminated soils
Description
Environmental project managers for major industrial companies must make decisions in a dynamic world. Faced with regulatory changes, legal influences, tight expense controls, and evolving technology, project managers work to solve environmental problems at their company's owned or operated properties. One large subset of environmental problems involves subsurface hydrocarbon contamination in the unsaturated zone. The objective of this paper is to provide a decision analysis framework for making remedial technology selections for hydrocarbon contaminated soils. The paper outlines the decision-making problems, details the critical components of the decision, and formats the processing of information for the decision-making. The paper will serve as a standard to allow the application of decision analysis to the complex unsaturated zone remediation issues facing industry today
