Description

Recently, a short-lived isomeric state with Iπ 6+, Ex = 191.3 keV and T1/2 = 14(2) ns has been identified in 82 Rb. In the present work we report on the g-factor determination for this state. The 79 Br (4 He, n) and 81 Br (3 He, 2 n) reactions have been employed to populate the state of interest using pulsed beams of 21 and 30 MeV, respectively, delivered by the U-120 cyclotron in Bucharest. The targets, the K Br and Rb Br chemical compounds with cubic structure, were placed in an external magnetic field of 24.9 kGs and TDPAD measurements have been performed. The determined g-factor is g = +0.67(2), corresponding to μ +4.02 n.m. The 6+ level in 82 Rb is the lowest in a sequence of high-spin positive parity states assumed to be described by the two-particle (π 1 g9/2 x ν 1 g9/2) configuration. The empirical g-factor for a 6+ state with the above configuration is gemp = +0.513. This value is however much lower than the experimental one, which indicates a more complex structure, including possibly intruder excitations for the 6+ isomeric state. (Author)
