Modernisation of German radiation protection legislation

  • 1. Bundesministerium fuer Umwelt, Naturschutz und nukleare Sicherheit, Bonn (Germany). Referat ''Strahlenschutzrecht - ionisierende Strahlung''

Description

The right to protect against the harmful effects of ionizing radiation has been extensively updated and modernized with a new radiation protection act and a new radiation protection ordinance. On December 31, 2018, most of the changes came into force. The reason for this was the obligation to implement the radiation protection directive 2013/59/Euratom, which has significantly expanded the already broad scope of application of the radiation protection law. The radiation protection act and the radiation protection ordinance apply radiation protection regulations that have been in force so far, modified by the requirement of the directive 2013/597Euratom, and contain provisions on new, also implementation-relate regulatory areas, such as radioactively contaminate sites and emergency response.
