Summary of tokamak experimental power reactor studies

Description

Scoping and conceptual design studies for a tokamak experimental power reactor (EPR) have been conducted for the past two years at Argonne National Laboratory, General Atomic Company, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The purpose of these studies was to define the physics and technological features of an EPR which could operate in the mid-to-late 1980s at or near net electrical power production conditions with a plant capacity factor in the range 25-50 percent, thereby providing perspective on the role of the EPR in the USERDA tokamak program. Salient features of the three designs are illustrated. The principal geometric parameters are given. The design-basis operating parameters are also given
