Description
This purpose is to report the outcome of high-dose-rate brachytherapy (HDR-BT) combined with external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) without androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) for high-risk prostate cancer. From 1997 to 2009, 310 patients with high-risk prostate cancer (cT3, GS≥8 or prostate specific antigen (PSA)≥20) were treated in our institute. 203 patients out of all underwent neo-adjuvant hormone therapy (NHT), but none received adjuvant hormonal therapy. The median follow-up was 6.4 years. The 5- and 10-year overall survival rates were 98% and 88%, cause-specific survival rates were 99% and 98%, and PSA failure-free survival rates were 83% and 72%, respectively. With more than 5 years of follow-up, our treatment without ADT as adjuvant therapy shows excellent outcomes. (author)
