On inhibition of corrosion and cathodic reactions on stainless steels in nitric-acid media by fluoride ion
Description
Inhibition of surface corrosion of industrial stainless steels 12Kh18N10T, 12Kh17N2 and Kh20N80 with fluorides in boiling solution of 6N HNO3 with addition of oxidants CrO3 and NH4VO3 has been studied. Under conditions investigated for steel 12Kh17N2 addition of 0.05 H F' decreases corrosion rate from approximately 100 g/m2xhr to 5 g/m2xhr, and addition of 0.25 H F' increases corrosion rate to 80000 g/m2xhr. It is established that formation of low-conductivity iron fluorides on the steel surface affects the inhibition or violates passivity in media with an oxidant
