Fusion-fission hybrid reactors

Description
The 14-MeV neutrons from the D-T fusion reaction can be used to produce large amounts of fissile materials in the blanket of a future fusion reactor. Along with this a hybrid blanket can essentially enhance the specific power of the fusion reactor. Thus, very favourable possibilities arise for the integration of nuclear fusion into the developed nuclear power industry of the future. The basic features of the hybrid reactor concept and some design studies known from the literature are described. (author)
