A simple broken-symmetry treatment of the ground and radially excited state mesons and the Δ+ → Pγ decay

  • 1. Los Alamos Scientific Lab., NM (USA). Theoretical Div.

Description

In this article, I wish to consider the ground state and radially excited state pseudoscalar and vector mesons and also the Δ+ → Pγ decay in the context of a simple algebraic model which is of a non-perturbative form. The model makes use of the well-known Gell-Mann SU(N) X SU(N) (N=2 or 4 in this article) algebras, assumed to be valid in broken symmetry. In addition, the dynamical concepts of algebraic (level) realization and asymptotic SU(N) are introduced and utilized in the infinite momentum frame limit. Special attention is given to deriving a number of mass-mixing angle constraints involving the 0-+ and the 1-- mesons in the ground state and radially excited states and to relating the form factors Gsup(*)sub(M) and Gsub(*)sub(E) which describe the Δ+ → Pγ decay to g sub(A(0))(the nucleon axial-vector coupling constant) and ksub(p) and ksub(N) (the proton and neutron anomalous magnetic moments).
