Description
Magnetic shields with superconducting windings have been studied aiming at a practical application of superconducting shielding. The tubular shields were made by windings using NbTi multifilamentary composite wires and impregnated with Wood's metal. The static fields parallel to the axis were applied to the shield and the field penetration was measured. The fields up to 2.0 T could be reduced less than 10-3 T at the center of the shield. To shield the vertical magnetic component to the axis, the superconducting wires were wound obliquely and examined. It is concluded that the magnetic shields with superconducting windings showed capability to shield not only the parallel but also the transverse fields to the axis. The stability of superconducting shield is also discussed
