On the asymptotic value of σel/σtot

Description
Using the optical limit of the Glauber model, we study the ratio of the total elastic to the total cross section in the case of few simple phase-shift functions. Assuming primarily absorptive elementary interactions, we discuss the asymptotic limit of σel/σtot and its increase with σtot. A specific example is designed to describe the proton-proton case. The results are compared to experimental values and to predictions of the odderon model. (orig.)
