Description

Yttria stabilized zirconia (Y-PSZ) is widely noticed because of high strength and toughness. However, it is necessary to evaluate the reliability on strength of Y-PSZ when it is designed as structural components. In the present, strength of Y-PSZ were almost estimated by three-point bending tests and analysis of tensile strength was not enough performed. In this paper, we have examined the tensile strength of Y-PSZ containing 2.6 mol% Y2O3. The test specimens were notched at radius of 3mm. The uniaxial tensile load was applied to Y-PSZ specimens at various speeds that were changed from 0.01mm/min to 1.0mm/min. As the results of these tests, it was shown that Y-PSZ has the plasticity dependent on the strain rate. (orig.)
