Importance of the sequence of application of ultrasound and ionizing radiation for survival of yeast cells

  • 1. Akademiya Meditsinskikh Nauk SSSR, Obninsk. Nauchno-Issledovatel'skij Inst. Meditsinskoj Radiologii

Description

The authors submit the results of experiments involving combined treatment of yeast cells, of different genotypes, with ultrasound and ionizing radiation. γ-Radiation was delivered either before or after ultrasound. It was shown that the extent of the synergistic effect of the two factors depends on the sequence of the delivery thereof: it was larger with a combination ''γ-radiation+ultrasound''. The combined effect was less pronounced for the rad 51 mutation which is radiosensitive and incapable of postradiation repair
