On the intrinsic resolution of a gamma camera system
Description
Theoretical simulation of the Anger gamma camera system on a digital computer was used to study the dependence of the intrinsic resolution on the stochastic nature of the photomultiplier pulse formation, as well as on some design parameters. A simple analytical model was found to give similar results on a relative basis. A substantial improvement in resolution is obtained by a proper choice of light-guide material and by introducing specular reflection at the crystal front surface.
