The detection of inhomogeneities in liquid metals by inductive flow measurement

Description

Gas bubbles in the liquid metal flow are detectable as negative pulses in the output signal of an inductive flowmeter. In model experiments and calculations the influence of size and path of single bubbles on these pulses was analyzed. The rms-value of a noise signal, generated by many bubble pulses, is proportional to the void fraction and inversely proportional to the square root of the pulse rate. The efficiency of an inductive detection system for sodium-to-water steam generators was investigated using the method of the statistical decision theory. (author)
