Description
Both Atlas and CMS collaborations have reported the discovery of a resonance with a mass of around 125 GeV, immediately associated with the long sought after Higgs boson(1). With this discovery, the Standard Model (Sm) of particle physics is considered to be complete. However, non-vanishing neutrino mass and the existence of particles beyond the Standard Model need to be extended. The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) discovery potential in the Z′ and heavy neutrino sectors of a enlarged Standard Model also encompassing three heavy Majorana neutrinos is presented. This model exhibits novel signatures at the Lhc, the most interesting arising from a Z′decay chain involving heavy neutrinos, eventually decaying into leptons and jets. In particular, this signature allows one to measure the Z′ and heavy neutrino masses involved. In addition, over a large region of parameter space, the heavy neutrinos are rather long-lived particles producing distinctive displaced vertices that can be seen by the detectors. Lastly, the simultaneous measurement of both the heavy neutrino mass and decay width enables an estimate of the absolute mass of the parent light neutrino. Analyzed possible signatures for heavy neutrinos and neutral gauge boson, Z′, in TeV scale B−L extension of the Standard Model at the Large Hadron Collider. The decays of Z′into leptons/jets and missing energy through heavy neutrinos are revisited.
