Cryogenic detectors and their applications in astrophysics and astro-particles

Description

Cryogenic detectors operating below the Kelvin degree have enabled the development of original and very sensitive astrophysics and astroparticle experiments. The precise study of the cosmic microwave background, the search for non-baryonic dark matter, the study of the properties of the neutrino and the exploration of the X-ray 'hot' universe, are exemplary cases using the advantages of this kind of detectors. This work presents the different types of cryogenic detectors (bolometers and calorimeters) under development or made at the CSNSM, and puts into perspective their interest but also the difficulties related to their manufacture and their operation at very low temperature
