The ANTARES Neutrino Telescope: exploring the Universe from sea abyss

Description
The ANTARES Collaboration is deploying the detector at a depth of 2.5 km in the Mediterranean sea about 40 km off shore La Seine-sur-Mer in South France. The twelve string detector will be completed in 2007 and 900 phototubes (PMTs) will allow the exploration of the Universe through the detection of Cherenkov light produced by charged neutrino secondaries. Data taking is already underway using an instrumented line and the first string of the final detector is fully tested and ready to be installed in the deep sea. The expected performance, calibrations needed to achieve them and the physics potential will be illustrated
