Characterisation of proton-exchanged Er:LiNbO3 waveguides

Description
Waveguides formed by proton-exchange in Er doped (0.2, 0.6 and 1.0 mol %) LiNbO3 at temperatures ranging from 180 - 250 degrees C have been characterised. Effective mode indices of proton-exchanged Er:LiNbO3 waveguides have been measured, and the effective diffusion coefficients in x-cut substrates have been estimated. At room temperature both the absorption and fluorescence spectra measured from the channel waveguides are close to that from the bulk material. (author)
