Infrared problem, Higgs phenomenon and long range interactions

  • 1. dell'Universita, Pisa (Italy)

Description

A non-perturbative approach to the infrared problem in quantum electrodynamics is discussed in sections 1 and 2. The infrared problem is associated to the zero mass of the photon. The essential part of the problem occurs when one of tries to remove the infrared cutoff in scattering amplitudes. In section 3, the topics discussed are the Higgs phenomenon and symmetry breaking order parameters. Finally in section 4, long-range interactions and symmetry breaking are discussed. 55 references
