Synthesis of model substances for examination of intramolecular hydrogen bonds

Description

Several substitute naphthols were condensed with piperidine, morpholine and formaldehyde by means of Mannich-reaction. The obtained substances served as models for spectroscopic examinations of intramolecular hydrogen bonds. 1H, 2H and 13C NMR spectra were examined and the influence of different side groups could be demonstrated. The fragmentation behaviour of these substances was determined by means of mass spectroscopy. (P.W.)
