Computer tomography and retroperitoneal fibrosis (Ormond's disease)

Description

Four patients with retroperitoneal fibrosis (Ormond's disease) were examined by computer tomography; the appearances are described and the differential diagnosis discussed. Computer tomography clearly defines the proliferative-inflammatory process and together with conventional radiology, angiography and lymphangiography it permits a presumptive diagnosis of retroperitoneal fibrosis. The non-invasive nature of computer tomography makes it the method of choice for follow-up of this disease. (orig.)

Abstract (German)

Die computertomographische Morphologie der retroperitonealen Fibrose (Morbus Ormond) sowie deren differential diagnostische Aspekte werden anhand vier eigener Beobachtungen eroertert. Die exakte computertomographische Definition des proliferativ-in-flammatorischen Geschehens ermoeglicht in Verbindung mit den konventionell-radiologischen, angiographischen und lymphographischen Untersuchungsergebnissen die Vermutungsdiagnose einer retroperaotonealen Fibrose. Die nicht-invasive abdominopelvine Computertomographie gilt als radiologische Untersuchungsmethode der Wahl zur Verlaufsbeurteilung des Leidens. (orig.)
