Clinical applications of krypton-81m RV MUGA studies

  • 1. Hammersmith Hospital and Royal Postgraduate Medical School, London (U.K.)

Description

A technique has been developed for imaging the RV (right ventricle) and assessing RV systolic function (ejection fraction, ejection rates and time to peak ejection) using peripheral vein infusion of Kr-81m (t1/2 = 13 secs) a 5 - 100 RAO projection and multigated acquisition. Kr-81m MUGA (multigated equilibrium radionuclide ventriculography) allows serial non-invasive assessment of right sided function and anatomy; problems due to overlay of the LV on the RV are eliminated due to efficient exhalation of Kr-81m through the lungs
