Surface layer softing in mechanically polished molybdenum monocrystals

  • 1. AN Ukrainskoj SSR, Kiev (Ukraine). Inst. Problem Materialovedeniya

Description

Softening of the surface layer together with growth of dislocation density is found in molybdenum single crystals mechanically polished with diamond suspension in water solution of CuSO4. The penetration of small amount of copper into molybdenum is observed by SIMS. A supposition has been made about molybdenum solid solution softening influenced by copper penetrating into molybdenum by means of a dynamic dislocation mechanism
