Evaluation of the IPIRG-2 project
Description
A review and evaluation of the most important results from the second International Piping Integrity Research Group project (IPIRG-2) is presented in this report. The evaluation is made with the special interests of the Swedish nuclear power plants in mind. IPIRG-2 tried to answer a.o. the following questions: How do cracked pipes behave when subjected to seismic loads? How do cracked systems behave when subjected to static and dynamic loads if the cracks are located at, or close to, a pipe knee? Can existing engineering methods be used to analyze the strength of the materials in these situations? How do dynamic and cyclic loads affect the yield resistance? 9 refs
