System response characteristics of HEGRS using EGS4

Description

The authors are using the Electron Gamma Shower (EGS4) system of Monte Carlo computer codes to model the response of the HEGRS detector system. The detector consists of 1 10 inches by 12 inches NaI(Tl) crystal which is encased in an anti-coincidence detector of BC408. The detector is shielded by lead, B4C resin, and borated (5%) resin. Neutron transport and photon production is performed by the Monte Carlo code COG, and the photon shower transport is performed by EGS4. This system of codes allows an unusually high degree of accuracy in describing the detector system. The authors present calculated system spectral responses relevant to their nucleon radiative capture studies
