Cooling/shielding device for fuel exchanger

Description

The present invention concerns a cooling/shielding device for a fuel exchanger for an HTGR type reactor. An inner container incorporating He gases sealed therein is disposed at the outside of a containing rack for containing spent fuels. A water-cooling jacket is disposed at the outer circumference of the inner container. Then, lead is disposed at the outside of the water-cooling jacket as γ-ray shielding materials. A recycling pump and a heat dissipating portion are connected to the water-cooling jacket to recycle the cooled water in the heat dissipating portion to a water-cooling jacket. After-heat generated from spent fuels is cooled by water in the water-cooling jacket and neutrons irradiated from the spent fuels are shielded. With such a constitution, even if the recycling pump should stop upon occurrence of an electric power accident, it is not necessary to provide an emergency power since the heat capacity of the water-cooling jacket is great to delay the temperature elevation of the spent fuels. Further, since neutron shielding wall is not disposed, the constitution is made simple and the cost is reduced. (I.N.)
