An upper limit to the life time of 9.709 MeV state in 32S by blocking technique
Description
The decay time of the compound nuclear state in the resonance reaction 31P(p,α)28Si at 872.4 keV incident proton energy has been measured. Single crystal of GaP is bombarded with 875 keV protons. Blocking patterns for the emitted α-particles are observed simultaneously along the two<111> directions, 71 deg apart, on plastic films. The analysis of the blocking dips reveal an upper limit of 4.2 x 10-11 secs for the 9.709 MeV state in 32S. (author)
