Description
The effect of uncertainties inherent in characterizing geologic systems must be evaluated during assessment of repository performance. The methods adopted to study the uncertainties depend on the performance measures defined by regulatory agencies, the long time spans for which performance must be evaluated, and the nature and extent of uncertainties. After providing some background information on the basalt site and nature of applicable regulatory requirements an application of the Monte Carlo method to the total system performance is discussed
