Reagan's NRC: seeking to streamline the regulation of nuclear energy

Basic procedural changes may be made in the Nuclear Regulatory Commission as Reagan appointees begin dominating the Commission. The changes are in response to rising public impatience with the regulation of nuclear power. At issue is the competence of the NRC to make detailed design and operating reviews. Other issues involve licensing procedures, personnel requirements, emergency planning, and site criteria.
