Environmental tracers in subsurface hydrology

This book focusses on subsurface hydrology and attempts to provide a comprehensive look at each of the tracers, with particular emphasis on their use in integrate studies. Applications of ionic tracers, noble gases, chlorofluorocarbons, tritium, chloride-36, oxygen-18, deuterium and isotopes of carbon, strontium, sulfur and nitrogen are presented as well as the estimation of vertical and horizontal groundwater velocities, groundwater recharge rates, intra-aquifer leakage and mixing processes, chemical processes and paleohydrology. Each chapter begins with an outline of the essential principles of the use of tracer, followed by a discussion of applications and examples. The final chapter contains shorter discussions of some lesser-used techniques, including some which may be regarded as developmental, e.g. 35S, 32Si. Copyright (2000) by Kluwer Academic Publishers
