Ion cyclotron instability of a multicomponent plasma shear flow along the magnetic field

Description
The kinetic ion cyclotron instability of a multicomponent plasma flow along the magnetic field with the shear of ion flow velocity has been considered. It is assumed that the plasma consists of hydrogen and oxygen ions, and the instability with the cyclotron frequency of hydrogen ions is investigated. The conditions of wave's excitation, as well as the growth rate are obtained. It is shown that the increase in the relative concentration of hydrogen ions as well as flow velocity shear lead to an decrease in the critical current velocity, which determines the threshold of instability.
