Diffuse scattering in the Nb-20 at.% Al alloy prior to Nb3Al phase formation and its connection with unstable lattice state

Description
Diffuse scattering in supersaturated b.c.c. solid solution Nb - 20 at.% Al with Nb3Al small particles has been studied by electronography. The shape of the scattering has been found to remind of that in the Ti-50 at.% Nb alloy, where it is due to unstable state of the lattice and to ω-like displacements of atoms. The scattering observed is discussed in terms of theories of electron-ion system instability
